(UPDATE:7/8/05)
We moved to Florida four years ago fulfilling my childhood dream of returning to where my father was born. My father was born and raised in St. Petersburg and moved up north in 1951. Growing up our bedtime stories included the beautiful beaches of Florida along with the paradise like conditions. I longed to return to what I have always thought of my real home. When the opportunity presented it self a few years ago I jumped at the chance to come here. We packed our kids, sold the business and where off.
In 1987 I bought a small window cleaning business from a
friend that wanted to get into another type of work. The business
fit right into my carpet cleaning service. In no time
I used a degreaser, the worst chemical you could ever use on an awning and when I was done cleaning the awning was no longer red but now orange. I was able to get out all the mold and streaks all in all the awning looked great. I charged him $60.00 for a half hour of work. That was when I realized the need for awning cleaning. As I researched the business I quickly found out the right way to clean awnings. I took 2 classes and talked with numerous awning professionals and fabric manufactures on how to clean each type of fabric. I recovered a certification and training before I started cleaning my next awning. I was not going to damage another awning and I’m glad to say that I haven’t.
Window cleaning in the cold of winter started to take its toll and it was time to move on so I sold the business. When we move down here our main focus was to build a service that is in great need. The problem was that most awning owners never even realized that they need to clean their awnings and seal treat it every three to six months. Sadly many people only wait until the awning is really dirty before they decided to clean it. When you wait that long it might be to late and the damage is done. At that point we are just trying to get out as much of the dirt and grime as possible. This is why it is very important to maintain you awning by cleaning it regularly. .
